JCWA stands for Junior Council on World Affairs or more commonly known as Model United Nations. JCWA is one of the largest clubs in the high school, with over 100 members. The main focus of JCWA is attending Model United Nations simulations at college conferences around the nation.
You decide which conference you'd like to attend and then you are assigned a United Nations committee and a country to represent within it. At the conference, you will debate your committee's topic from your nation's point of view against students from other high schools.
Don't worry!!! Most of the experienced members didn't either when they started. Before a conference, we'll give you background packets from your committee, hold policy meetings to teach you information, and read over your position papers. The board and other experienced club members are always available to give advice and help when you need it.
JCWA is one of the few groups where fun and learning go hand in hand. It's a great way to meet people outside of your grade and make new friends. You get to visit colleges on fun weekend trips, which include great bus rides. At the same time, you get to dress up, learn how to debate and get comfortable in front of a group of people. So, while you're doing something academic that would make your parents proud, you still get to have a great time!
